One of the most important and heavily weighted elements in search engine optimization are Title Tags. The title tag is the text that appears at the top of the browser on your menu bar.
The most important thing to keep in mind with your title tag, is to include keywords that everyday users will be searching for in Google. If we look at the search results in Google, the title tag is the clickable link to get to the site, so it is important to make the title tag attractive enough for users to want to click on.
One of the most common mistakes people make, is putting their title tag as “home” or their company name itself. The problem with these title tags is that they don’t explain what the page is about.
Instead take your company name and add more to it. Explain what your company does in the title. Also include the city you operate in if you are a local business.
Avoid making excessively long title tags. This could dilute your more important keywords. Industry specific keywords should not be used if they are not common to your customers. Use terms that they would know about and would actually search for.
Hmmmm…. interesting…. but how do I program the changes to the title tag when using iWeb?
You can use a program such as iWeb SEO Tool. It’s a free tool you can use to add title tags, meta tags and more.
We have a video tutorial for iWeb SEO Tool as well.
I love the iWeb SEO Tool and can’t thank you enough for it. I want to take your advise and have the title tag for the page optimized. Right now I have changed the title tag for each page on my site using the SEO Tool. I can not figure out, however, how to change my overall site title tag using the tool. When my page appears on the google search engine, it is appearing as “HOME”, as you recommend against. Can you help me fix this?
Hi Jennifer
There is no “overall” site title tag. Each page has its own title tag. The title that will appear in Google, will be whatever title tag you put for each respective page that is indexed. It probably still appears as HOME because Google has not updated it yet. Give it some time and it should change.

Hi loving iWeb SEO Tool straight forward and user friendly, but I am struggling to change the first section of the codes when I view source where it identifies iWeb in the meta names and the html code. this is not allowing my title to be recognised can anyone help please.
